Does Netflix Work with Hide.Me (Tested February 2023)

Hide.me VPN
If you’ve read up on how global streaming services like Netflix offer different content depending on location and want to explore the alternatives, you can use a VPN to unblock restrictions regardless of where you are in the world.

Recently, Netflix has improved its process for identifying VPNs and blocking them, potentially including Hide.me.

In this article, we’ll discuss if Hide.me VPN does unblock Netflix, why Netflix blocks VPNs and proxies, and alternative VPNs that we’ve tried and tested and can guarantee will work.

 What do Hide.me say?

When I checked hide.me’s website, I found a long list of websites that the VPN says it can unblock. Not only does this include Netflix, but also Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and more.

Hide.me VPN unblocks an impressive number of sites, including Netflix

However, Netflix is notorious for being extremely difficult for VPNs to unblock. The streaming giant is constantly blacklisting VPN servers, so most VPNs have given up trying to stay ahead of the ban. If hide.me claims that it can access Netflix, then the provider must be confident that it can deliver — and so I put it to the test.

Does Netflix Actually Work with Hide.me VPN?

Yes, hide.me does work with Netflix but only if you’re on the Premium plan. You’ll find a special streaming tab in the app, where you can connect to an optimized server for Netflix.

Unfortunately, you can’t unblock any streaming sites on the free version and this includes Netflix. When I connected to a US server on the free plan, I only saw Netflix’s infamous proxy error message:

Pardon the interruption

You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again. For more help, visit netflix.com/proxy.

Error Code: M7111-5059

 Why Does Netflix Block VPNs?

Netflix FireStick_app
Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services in the world, and for good reason. There are around 200 versions of the streaming service, and depending on which location you’re in, you’ll have a different viewing experience.

However, if you’ve moved or are traveling abroad, you won’t have access the same content that you would if you were in your home country.

The reason for this is because countries implement geo-restrictions to correspond with copyright regulations and individual censorship. Each country has laws regarding censorship and rates their shows differently, regarding specific content unfit for consumption.

As a result, shows such as The Haunting of Hill House will be blocked.

Speeds

Hide.me’s performance is quite impressive, even on the free plan. I got the best speeds when I connected to the “Best Location”. This automatically finds the fastest server with the most steady connection.

Quality

We had no quality issues with the videos we streamed. There were no dips in quality, and the content streams at the maximum spec. Hide.me doesn’t sacrifice connection performance for better security, unlike many VPNs on the market.

Other Sites

Although I couldn’t unblock Netflix using the free version of Hide.me, I decided to test other streaming sites. I connected to a server in the US and attempted to access Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+. Unfortunately, I was blocked from streaming every time.

If you’re going to watch Netflix and other streaming services, I suggest upgrading to the Premium plan (it’s risk-free for 30 days!). In my tests, I had no issues accessing any streaming sites via the optimized servers.

Two Alternatives to Hide.me That Work With Netflix

1ExpressVPN – Incredible speeds are great for streaming

ExpressVPN Unblocks US Netflix
  • 3,000+ VPN servers in 160 VPN server locations in 94 countries
  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • 30-day money back guarantee
  • Zero throttling policy

With global dedicated servers, ExpressVPN will provide you with the opportunity to stream your favorite content from anywhere in the world, including Netflix.

Over long and short distances, ExpressVPN’s performance has shown to be one of the fastest on the market. They also have a zero throttling policy so you can stream without interruptions, buffering, or loss of quality.

With the highest level of security, your device is protected from external threats like malware, ransomware, and viruses. Moreover, 256-bit encryption has never been breached.

2CyberGhost VPN – Netflix specific servers

Cyberghost works with Netflix

  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • 3,600+ servers
  • A dedicated streaming section on the app
  • 45-day money back guarantee

CyberGhosts offers an extra speed feature that can optimize your streaming experience. Also, the dedicated streaming section on their app means you don’t need to figure out how to navigate the VPN for too long.

Furthermore, with an extensive global server network, you can always find a way to stream your favorite content across a range of sites, including Netflix. 256-bit encryption, DNS and IP leak protection, and an automatic kill switch ensure your privacy and security.

 Final Word

Hide.me VPN is a good choice for watching Netflix — but only if you’re a paying customer. For less than $5 each month, you’ll have unlimited bandwidth for streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and more. You can even try out hide.me’s paid plan for free for 30 days with the money-back guarantee.

Unfortunately, like many other free VPNs, hide.me’s free plan is extremely limited and doesn’t unblock any streaming platforms. In addition, you only have 10GB of monthly data on the free plan, which is barely enough for HD or Ultra HD video quality.
